Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading carmaker is known for making cars that are high on utility and affordability. Most of the Maruti cars have done exceptionally well in the Indian market. Always the first preference of the average car buyer, a Maruti car is great a machine that is affordable and powerful enough. Many cars from Maruti have become top selling cars of the country. Some of them include the likes of Maruti 800 (now withdrawn from the market), Maruti Alto and Wagon R.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been one of the most successful cars for the maker ever since its debut in the 2000s. Going strong even after a decade and half of existence, the Wagon R has seen many facelifts and upgrades, the latest one being the Wagon R Stingray, which did not excite the buyers as its predecessors did. Perhaps that was why Maruti decided to bring in a diesel variant of the popular car Wagon R.
Another reason for introducing a diesel variant of this popular model could have been the skyrocketing petrol prices, which prompted many buyers to switch to diesel cars. This trend had forced many companies to rework their strategies and bring out diesel variants to remain relevant in the market.
Accordingly, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R diesel will make its entry into the market soon. It could be priced at a reasonable rate of 4.2 lakh to 5.3 lakh rupees, ensuring that this car enjoy a great run once launched. It will be equipped with a 970 cc, 0.8-liter, three-cylinder, twelve valve, DOHC engine with a capacity to generate a maximum power of 50 bhp with a top torque of 130 Nm. This five-seater car will be equipped with five-speed manual transmission gearbox. The Wagon R diesel is expected to be one of the most fuel-efficient cars around, as it is rumored to offer a top mileage of 35kmpl. However, there is no official confirmation of the same. Experts are suggesting that realistically, the mileage would be around 25 kmpl.
The probable date of launch and the full technical specifications are still awaited. However, the industry insiders are saying that the car will be launched sometime within mid June to August this year. When launched, the car will share the same segment with the existing line-up of Wagon Rs. However, the customers can expect some cosmetic changes, which would give the car a unique look and feel.
Some of these changes could be in the form of stylish alloy wheels, revamped headlamps and remodeled grille, among others. It is also rumored that the seats, dashboard, central console and steering wheel will feature a brand new design, to make it a sure shot winner.
